We were nibbling some Hershey's Miniatures, and I started to think... Milk Chocolate, Special Dark, Mr. Goodbar, Krackle... wasn't there a fifth variety? I remember another selection in the Miniatures assortment when I was a kid. It had a pale yellow or ivory wrapper, and was called Butter Crunch or Butter Brickle or something like that. Am I right? I remember it being my least favorite. Probably everyone else's, too, or they'd still be making it. What was it called, and what was it made of? Well, persistence (or obsession?) pays off. Thanks to Google News and www.newspaperarchives.com I found an old newspaper ad for Hershey's candy that lists Mr. Goodbar, Krackel, and... Butter Chip! It had bits of crunchy-sticky butter toffee enrobed in milk chocolate, kind of like a finely-ground Heath Bar. Further searching revealed that Butter Chip was introduced in 1963 and discontinued in 1968. Not even the Hershey's headquarters seems to have a record of this product.
