My wife and I got back from a trip to Hershey, PA last week (and, surprisingly, we still have chocolate left to finish).

We were nibbling some Hershey's Miniatures, and I started to think... Milk Chocolate, Special Dark, Mr. Goodbar, Krackle... wasn't there a fifth variety?

I remember another selection in the Miniatures assortment when I was a kid. It had a pale yellow or ivory wrapper, and was called Butter Crunch or Butter Brickle or something like that. Am I right? I remember it being my least favorite. Probably everyone else's, too, or they'd still be making it.

What was it called, and what was it made of?

Thanks,
-- Bob

My husband and I have been going nuts on this question! In a good way, mind you! I finally tossed it out to the CocoaJava Café livejournal today, to see if any of my readers that use that journal might have a comment or memory to share. If I get a nibble, I'll let you know!

Take care,

Lori --

Three years ago, I sent you this e-mail asking if you remembered the long-lost fifth Hershey's Miniature from my childhood. Well, persistence (or obsession?) pays off. Thanks to Google News and www.newspaperarchives.com I found an old newspaper ad for Hershey's candy that lists Mr. Goodbar, Krackel, and... Butter Chip! It had bits of crunchy-sticky butter toffee enrobed in milk chocolate, kind of like a finely-ground Heath Bar. Further searching revealed that Butter Chip was introduced in 1963 and discontinued in 1968. Not even the Hershey's headquarters seems to have a record of this product. I'd still love to see the old label, though, to see how close my memory is to reality.
