Vacations in Chocolate Paradise

By Lori Holuta

March 13, 2001

The Hotel Hershey has created a spa experience that until now only existed in our wildest dreams. I don't think I could describe this concept any better than this article, Imagine Being Dipped In Chocolate. You really must read it right now. I'll wait here until you return. I've got a plate of raspberry truffles, so really, I'll be fine.

Ah, you're back. Now, wasn't that great? Aren't you ready to try that whipped cocoa bath at home? What a wonderful way to get into a self-indulgent, luxury vacation mood. Speaking of self-indulgence, I've got the scoop on some more chocolate-themed getaways that just might inspire your next vacation. Hang onto your bon bons, here we go!

  • Snow Party - A Sweet Time In Argentina

  • Every August, the ski resort region of Bariloche, Argentina is home to the "National Snow Party". Locals and travelers from around the world enjoy a week-long celebration featuring a torch parade on Cerro Catedral (the mountain), a Chocolate Party and the crowning of the Chocolate Queen.

  • Chocolate Lovers Paradise Tours

  • "It was just a matter of time before I would combine my travel experience with my passion for food to create a unique tour to chocolate heaven." says Greta Inowlocki, a confirmed chocophile. Her career as a Belgian travel agent led to a natural pairing of her talent and her sweet tooth, resulting in Chocolate Lovers Paradise Tours. Is Belgium truly paradise? It may very well be. While Belgium is a small country, only the size of the state of Maryland, it still finds room for 2,130 chocolate shops! The capital city, Brussels is known as the 'Chocolate Capital Of The World'. But even a confirmed chocophile needs other diversions. Belgium rivals France in gourmet cuisine, so you can count on a wonderful dinner before your dessert. If you love shopping, you'll find great bargains on chocolates, of course, but don't overlook handmade lace, leather goods, diamonds and crystal ware. For more information, stop by their very well-done website. The site itself is a visual treat, rich with information and photographs.

  • Chocolate City, U.S.A.

  • Where's that, you ask? Burlington, Wisconsin! It's home to Nestle, and also the annual Chocolate Fest, which is held the weekend following Mother's Day each year. Attractions include opening day fireworks, the Taste Of Chocolate tent, a carnival, exhibits, live music and other entertainers, and closes with a parade on the final day. The City of Burlington also welcomes visitors to enjoy other chocolate diversions around town.

  • 10th Annual Chocolate Festival

  • The Oakdale Chocolate Festival happens each May in this little California town. It's sponsored by the Hershey’s Chocolate and Confectionery Corporation, which operates a manufacturing plant in Oakdale, California. The festival is always held on the 3rd weekend in May. There's a lot to do, with music, entertainment, arts and crafts, a car show, tennis tournament, a fun run, and kid's activities. But the star of the show is "Chocolate Avenue". Here you'll find vendors tempting you with delicious cakes, cookies, ice cream, fudge, toffee, truffles, cheesecakes, chocolate shakes, and candies. There will be free samples to help break down your willpower.
