Chocolate Crackles Circa 1937

The recipe to create a classic Australian kids’ treat: Chocolate Crackles!  These are also known as Chocolate Bubble Cakes.

And for those in the United States, or other countries that can’t get the original ingredients, here’s a modified recipe from “Nosh with Me”

The first known mention of this recipe was in Australian Women’s Weekly in 1937.  More about the original recipe’s history, and that entire recipe can be found at the Australian Food History Timeline.

I love digging into the history of things – and recipes can be fascinating from an archaeology point of view! Thank you for setting me loose on the track.
