Long Grove Confectionery Company’s Chocolate Factory Tour

February 21, 2012

Located in the north to northwest suburbs of Chicago, the Long Grove Confectionery Company’s Chocolate Factory Tour awaits your visit. You will experience the old-fashioned way of making chocolate…all hand crafted and uniquely packaged into our gourmet line of the finest quality chocolate products.

The Confectionery is a family owned business with its beginning in Historic Long Grove, Illinois in 1975. Soon it outgrew its production area and built a new production facility in nearby Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Recently that facility has been expanded to 85,000 sq. ft., which includes a first class tour route for guests to visit.

Once inside the reception area, you will gather under the antique, stained-glass dome and view the 9 foot tall, 2,500-pound, solid chocolate Statue of Liberty before beginning your tour of our specialty chocolate kitchen. The tour guide will present a short video in the gallery on how cacao (ca-cow) is grown and processed into what we know and love as chocolate. It will also include a brief history of the family-owned Long Grove Confectionery. Since 1887, the Mangel family has been involved with many customer-oriented businesses and prides itself with its personal approach to providing quality products, service and satisfaction. Following the video, factory hats will be presented to the tour guests before entering the production walkway, which features a 157′ long mural reflecting the history of candy making equipment on one wall. On the other side of the walkway are a series of 5 production viewing windows where you will see, first-hand, the handmade production of chocolate and its distinctive packaging. Production videos are shown on monitors that supplement what you are watching in “live” production. Traveling down the antique, metal-molds walkway into the “wrap up” room finishes the video while inviting you to “taste a *-piece of chocolate”. The final stop is your opportunity to shop in the gigantic Outlet Store with discounts up to 75% off retail prices. The complete tour lasts 1 hour and costs $2.00 per person. (Note: The Outlet Store is open 7 days a week. Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

Tours are available Monday through Thursdays at 9, 10, 11, Noon and 1p.m. Reservations are required. Closed on major holidays. The Confectionery is handicapped accessible.
